Adriano Leite Ribeiro, former striker of the Brazilian national team and one of the most iconic footballers of the 2000s, is joining the international squad for the exhibition match “Ronaldinho & Friends,” taking place on June 14, 2025, at BTarena in Cluj-Napoca. The lineups for both teams are now nearly complete. For fans, this is a rare opportunity to see Adriano, who has stayed away from the spotlight since retiring and hasn’t left his native favela—until now, when he returns to Europe, visiting both Italy and Cluj.

Adriano comes to Sports Festival 2025 not only as a legendary Brazilian forward but also as the bearer of a powerful life story that has touched hearts around the world. He was one of the strongest and most electrifying strikers of his time, adored in Italy for his performances with Inter Milan, Roma, and Parma. He shared the national team locker room with Ronaldinho and contributed to major victories. Behind the success, however, was a difficult personal battle. After the loss of his father, Adriano distanced himself from football and returned to the favela in Rio de Janeiro where he grew up. In a moving letter published by The Players’ Tribune, he spoke candidly about grief, pressure, and rediscovery.
Known for his physical strength, powerful shots, and commanding presence on the pitch, Adriano shares many traits with Ronaldinho—both came from humble neighborhoods in Brazil and found in football not only a way out but also a means of self-expression. The two played together for Brazil during key moments such as the 2004 Copa America, the 2005 Confederations Cup, and the 2006 World Cup.
While Ronaldinho dazzled with his flair and unmistakable charisma, Adriano impressed with his strength, determination, and unforgettable goals. Their careers saw both meteoric highs and unexpected challenges, but their stories continue to inspire with their raw authenticity and courage.
Adriano joins the international lineup for the Sports Festival 2025 exhibition match, alongside Ronaldinho, Marco Materazzi, Wesley Sneijder, Júlio César, Ricardinho, Kevin Kurányi, and Cristian Zaccardo. They will face off against a team of Romanian legends: Adrian Mutu, Bogdan Lobonț, Răzvan Raț, Cosmin Contra, Adrian Ilie, Alexandru Chipciu, and Florin Cernat. Organizers will soon announce one more international player and two additional Romanian players.

The match will follow a 5+1 format, with two 30-minute halves and a 20-minute halftime break. “Ronaldinho & Friends” is the most anticipated moment of Sports Festival 2025 and a unique event in Romania. Tickets for the exhibition match sold out entirely, across two sales phases that generated record-breaking interest.
The sixth edition of SPORTS FESTIVAL, Romania’s largest multi-sport event dedicated to mass participation, will take place June 12–15, 2025, in Cluj-Napoca. After a successful 2024 edition featuring tennis giants, the organizers are preparing new surprises and challenges for sports lovers. The event will unfold, as always, across the Cluj Arena plateau, Aleea Stadionului, Radisson Garden, Central Park, the nearby children’s park, and Iuliu Hațieganu Park.
